Public Services

National Health Service

With a strong emphasis on health and safety and legal compliance, the public services have a requirement for a wide range of ergonomic interventions which include workstation assessments, workstation and equipment design, task analysis and the assessment of work routines. Indeed the National Health Service is among the three largest employers in the world and as such have specific needs that relate to the management of the health and safety in the workplace for their staff.

Hu-Tech have in the past been tasked with and have successfully delivered a range of occupational ergonomic solutions to the emergency services specifically with detailed assessment of risks associated with manual handling and patient transfer. This extends to providing detailed management level guidance on manual operations concerning appliances, ambulances and routine policing activity.

Dispaly Screen Equipment and Office Ergonomics

Due to the large numbers of administrative and office positions that exist in central and local government a high degree of importance is placed upon the Display Screen Equipment workstation set up and annual assessments. It is vitally important that these assessments be carried out by an ergonomics professional to ensure that workstations are fit for purpose and set up correctly to keep the users comfortable, safe and efficient.  The selection and procurement of suitable equipment and furniture is very important and should be audited by an ergonomist for task specificity and usability. Poor initial selection of equipment for task can prove to be extremely uneconomical due to replacement cost of furniture that is found to be uncomfortable or even worse, unsafe.

Local Authorities

Hu-Tech has worked for a number of local authorities to provide ergonomic design solutions for their customer interfaces and public counters in cash halls. In this instance we have undertaken detailed ergonomic risk assessments of the staff workstations but also the usability and efficiency of the counters for the customer. Careful consideration in this area has resulted in safer and more comfortable workstations for the staff, but also has a positive impact on the customer experience by influencing the waiting times and queuing.
