Defence
The Ministry of Defence states clearly that all equipment and processes supplied to any of the tri-services is required to adhere to the relevant defence standards. This ensures that equipment supplied to the armed forces are optimally designed and manufactured with consideration to the human factor.
Human Factors Integration (HFI)?
"HFI is a systematic process for identifying, tracking and resolving human related issues ensuring a balanced development of both technological and human aspects of capability." (www.ams.mod.uk)
Because humans are a key component for effective operations in any defence system, human factors must be accounted for and integrated into the design of the system. Six human factors domains have been identified and these should be considered during the human factors systems or equipment procurement. We are however increasingly taking account of a potential seventh domain of organizational and social factors.
The seven HFI domains are listed below:
-
Manpower
-
Personnel
-
Training
-
Human Factors Engineering
-
Health and Hazards
-
System Safety
-
Organisational and Social
Hu-Tech can demonstrate a solid understanding of the Human Factors Integration process and have within our team extensive project experience ranging across the tri-services. We are proud to have been approved to join the MoD's Defence Standards Helpdesk Supporter Network. This is a network of recognised experts in the use of Defence Standards (DStans). Hu-Tech will therefore be providing limited free advice to any individual or organisation on interpreting and applying the DStans for human factors, ergonomics and safety management systems.
